With the Specially Designated Secrets Protection Act finally coming into effect, this album examines the prewar public and societal attitudes toward secrecy, or "counterintelligence," as its main theme, and presents historical documents as part of propaganda research.
In addition, it focuses on the "spies who were treated like stars" around the time of the Manchurian Incident, making it a valuable resource for the history of prewar pop music.
The book is supervised by writer Masanori Tsujita, a renowned researcher of military songs and propaganda whose works include Gentosha Shinsho's "Japanese Military Songs: A History of National Music," Shinyusha Mook's "Japanese Military Songs," and Shakai Hyoronsha's "Complete Collection of World Military Songs: Reading the Era of Nationalism and Ideology Through the Lyrics."
